BIG UPDATE
Cranes for Hiroshima
Hello everyone,
The cranes are now packed and ready for their flight to Hiroshima. THANK YOU to all who participated. We collected 3,046 cranes. Our youngest participants are preschoolers. Our oldest are well into their 80s! The cranes were folded all around the world. Many were created while the folders were traveling around the world themselves on the Peace Boat!
We had just over 2,000 cranes submitted that were senbazuru ready! Each crane was carefully sorted by color or pattern to string the most pleasing senbazuru possible. Here are some images and videos of the two senbazuru. If you do not see your crane in these images, keep reading. There are another few hundred cranes that will be placed individually into the display cases in Peace Park. And still more are being reserved for special events.
In addition to the 2,000 cranes that went into the making of these senbazuru, we have another few hundred special cranes that will be placed individually into the display cases at Peace Park in Hiroshima. Sorted by color or pattern, here are those cranes, now packed and ready to fly.
The two senbazuru and the individual cranes pictured above will be on display in the Park during the 80th memorial service held there in August. They will remain hanging until the display cases are filled with new cranes as they arrive in the future. When their time comes to be replaced, this amazing organization steps in. Each crane is carefully unfolded and prepared for its future, recycled into new paper products, often new origami paper! You can read all about the program HERE. I’ve also discovered this honorable use of the cranes, one I am looking forward to exploring when I visit in August.
Lastly, there are a few hundred more cranes not shown here, folded on board the Peace Boat. I am carefully storing these for future events, to hand out and share as I am able, carrying the dreams of the Boat into the world for many months to come. ❤️

In the coming weeks, you’ll read about the cranes and their arrival in Hiroshima. Look for that post soon after August 6. Thank you again to all who took the time to send your wishes and dreams to Hiroshima.
Sue
